Day 16 — Finishing our Models of NIS Buildings

Students should be well on their way in creating a 3D model of an NIS building.  Most students are creating a model of the wooden building.  I suspect this is because I have provided a kit to assemble.  If you use the kit, you will need to add significant other details to the model.  Some students have announced they are finished, but I do not see windows, railings, benches or other details.

The new NIS high school building is easier to create.  Take a look at my model in progress below:

Note that I am not following precise measurements or detail.  That would take too long.  I am just estimating where things go and trying to make the model a relatively close approximation of the actual building.

At home we have a better video card.  Using SketchUp with good graphics card makes a big difference.  Selecting planes and lines never fails!

Be sure to work hard, not waste time and have a bit of fun with this.

Your due date is the end of next week.  That is 2 October.

Day 6 — Door, Windows, Whiteboards … and more

Your models of our classroom are progressing well.  Today, I would like us to make doors, windows and whiteboards.  Take a look at the picture below to get an idea of what to make.  Remember, you will need to take measurements and make these models in the proper dimensions.  If you would like to move faster, there are components in your SketchUp folder for you to use.

Day 3 — Building Skills in 3D Drawing

User-friendly tools facilitate the creation of...

You are doing well.  Please don’t rush.  Try to understand how to use the various tools.  Remember, we want all of you to be expert in SketchUp.

I have downloaded and put video tutorials on your computer.  They are in your class folder.  There is a video tutorial for each tool, plus a few others that deal with concepts and techniques.  These videos are publically available, and you can take them home if you wish.  You will need my permission to use a USB device in the lab.

Today, we will view two more videos and try out 4 self-paced tutorials in SketchUp.  Please work hard, do not waste time and be sure to have some fun.

The objectives for today are as follows:

  1. Students will use the push/pull tool with increased accuracy
  2. Students will create models using a combination of drawing tools and push / pull
  3. Students will create a model following an example
  4. Students will create a model of a chair using a variety of tools
  5. Students will modify models with textures and colors

I have some assignments for you coming up.  You will need good skills in SketchUp to complete them.  If you want more information on any tool, put on the headphones and watch the video.
