Semester II, Day 22 — GeoGebra … becoming a math nerd

Today we begin a new unit of study.  We will learn how to use GeoGebra.  GeoGebra is dynamic mathematics software that combines geometry, algebra and calculus.  For our purposes, we will not learn math in our class.  We will learn how to use this program to help us learn mathematics.

The idea behind GeoGebra is to combine manipulations on the spreadsheet view, the algebra view or the geometry view.  You can enter formulas right out of your math book, or draw in geometry area.

You are all going to become math nerds!  You will be surprised how easy this is to do.

On your computers is a folder with a number of lessons in ebook form and some files.  GeoGebra main website

Semester II, Day 16 — Hair, Hair Color

I have a video tutorial that covers how to add additional materials to a model.  This way you can color the hair on your model.  For those who need it, I will put it on your computer.

Soon, I will upload additional tutorials for your use on your computers.

Semester II, Day 15 — Use Sculpting Mode, Smooth Tool

To finish off your character head and smooth out all the bumps, try the Sculpting Tool.  Press ‘n’ to bring up the menu and choose the smooth tool.

Here are my latest results:

It would be easier if everyone just shaved their heads so we wouldn’t need to add hair!

Semester II, Day 14 — Hair, Eyes some Colour

Some students have finished modeling the head and are able to take some time to add hair and model eyes.  There are different ways to accomplish these things.  We can look at them in class once most of us have the head finished.

Semester II, Day 13 — Finished the Head? Add some details …

Some students will finish their head model soon.  When you have the eyes, nose, mouth and ears in place, the rest goes quickly.  If you are finished, please add some details to your model:

Eyes:

There are a number of tutorials available on line.  Why not try something yourself first?  Otherwise, go to the following site to follow a tutorial:

Model an Eye

We also learned how to fix the double vertices.  In edit mode, select all, then mesh -> vertices -> remove doubles

Semester II, Day 12 — Finish the Ear, Make the Head

We learned that it is definitely better to be working with the subsurface on.

All students need to finish the ear today.  After that, it is easy to complete the head.

Try saving several copies, for example, with subsurface, without, and various rates of completion.

Semester II, Day 11 — Ready or Not, Let’s Do the Ear

Today in class, we will all create the ear.  It is not as hard as it looks.  We will follow along on the screen.  The ear you create does not need to be an exact copy of your model.  Just use the model picture to get a rough idea of how the ear looks.

When you have the eyes in place, the nose made, a mouth and ears, the rest is just joining up the edges to make faces.  Be sure to create good topography.
